GOVERNING COUNCIL – St. Joseph’s High School, Nakirebe
The Governing Council of St. Joseph’s High School, Nakirebe plays a vital role in providing strategic direction, oversight, and policy guidance to the school. Composed of experienced educators, religious leaders, community representatives, and parent delegates, the council ensures that the school operates in line with its mission, vision, and values. It acts as the highest decision-making body in the school’s governance structure.
The council’s core responsibility is to safeguard the educational, spiritual, financial, and operational wellbeing of the school. This includes overseeing the school’s performance, approving budgets, guiding infrastructure projects, evaluating leadership, and ensuring the school complies with the Ministry of Education & Sports regulations. The council also monitors the implementation of the competency-based curriculum, staff recruitment, and welfare of both teachers and learners.
Meetings are held on a regular basis — usually once a term — and special sessions may be convened during critical times such as national examination seasons or major development planning. The council collaborates closely with the Head Teacher, the Board of Directors, and the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) to ensure that all stakeholders are represented and that policies are practical, inclusive, and achievable.
The strength of the Governing Council lies in its diversity and shared commitment to excellence. It includes professionals from different sectors such as education, finance, health, and faith-based institutions, making sure that school policies are balanced and grounded in community needs. Members are appointed through a careful vetting process and serve on a rotational basis to maintain transparency, continuity, and fresh perspectives.
The council has played a key role in many of the school’s milestones — including the acquisition of UNEB center status, the construction of science laboratories and computer labs, and the expansion of A-Level subject offerings. It also ensures that students’ rights are protected, the school culture remains strong, and the institution continues to live up to its motto: “Let Your Light Shine.”
